So, it's been several weeks since I posted anything. Nothing's been happening, really. We had a quiet 4th of July, spending the evening together as a family.
filodea and
dollydani went out and got the fixings for sundaes while Dad, Ann, and Dar'Quing played Monopoly and I talked with
lacecravat on my laptop. They even got chocolate whipped cream! I'd be using it on my ice cream if I didn't have chocolate ice cream to begin with. Even a chocoholic like myself has a limit. *grin*
The whole family went to the Dodger game last Thursday. They were playing the Giants and lost, the bums! At least they kept Barry Bonds from being very effective. If we'd gone Friday night, we would have gotten baseball caps and watched the Dodgers win. *pout* Oh, well.
Ann,
dollydani, and I visited the Getty with a group from the church last Saturday, and then we went to the Third Street Promenade for dinner and walked along the Santa Monica Pier afterwards. It was lovely and I fell asleep on the way back to the church, after
lacecravat called me.
I've been reading Our Mutual Friend online since I last visited
lacecravat and am finally getting into the meat of the story. I'd forgotten how tedious it can be to read Dickens, but he has such a beautiful style of writing that I can't help admiring it. I despair of ever being that skilled, but I quite enjoy reading it. I think Mortimer Lightwood and Eugene Wrayburn are my favourite characters so far. The following two sentences of Mortimer ruminating on Eugene, express so much about them and the friendship they have:
"Despite that pernicious assumption of lassitude and indifference, which had become his second nature, he was strongly attached to his friend. He had founded himself upon Eugene when they were yet boys at school; and at this hour imitated him no less, admired him no less, loved him no less, than in those departed days."
There's also the fact that they often call each other "My dear Eugene" and "My dear Mortimer". *grin* Something that's rather amusing overall is that I keep hearing their voices in my head as I'm reading the dialogue.
Anyway, that's everything that's happened since my last post, so I shall say good night and good luck.
