My biggest influence would have to be writing fanfic. It's difficult to create your own world and characters to play with. By playing with others' worlds and characters, I can refine my writing skills, so my original work will be that much better for it. I go back and re-read some of my fanfics and cringe a little at the flaws, but I can see the potential, too. I'm not perfect, but writing fanfic has made me a better writer overall.
