Several months ago,
shinseikatsu and
ll_geekcore_ll came up with the idea of spending a weekend away somewhere. They decided on San Diego because there's a ghost tour in the area that we would all love to go on. So we arranged to stay at a resort on
shinseikatsu's parents' timeshare in Ramona from the 7th to the 9th. I went out to
shinseikatsu's Wednesday (the 6th) so she wouldn't have to worry about picking me up on the way. To pass the time, we watched movies: Pulp Fiction, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie, and Bright Young Things. I liked all of them. It was difficult to keep track of Pulp Fiction's storylines, but no more than with Kill Bill or Resevoir Dogs. MST3K was hysterical, of course. Bright Young Things was fun, because I like to try to predict what will happen in a movie and I wasn't right very often with this movie. Which was nice, because I was pleasantly surprised.
Thursday morning, while we were waiting to leave, we watched Independence Day, which is always kickass. Then we watched the beginning of The Reaping. I'd like to see the rest of it sometime. It's an interesting premise and I want to see where they went with it. Then we left to get
ll_geekcore_ll and buy groceries before leaving for Ramona. It took us two hours to get there. Once we settled in, we went to the store to pick up some items we forgot, and then had a lovely dinner of spaghetti, cooked mainly by
ll_geekcore_ll. About an hour later, we went to enjoy the resort's pool and jacuzzi. Once we returned to the room and changed into pajamas, we watched an episode of Supernatural before going to bed. I very determinedly did not think about the movie while I was trying to sleep. *grin*
Friday morning, we went to the French Toast breakfast that the resort offers. It was good, but I guess I just prefer the way Mom taught me how to make it. We watched four more episodes of Supernatural before we left for San Diego. The tour wasn't until 6:30 PM, so
shinseikatsu and I visited the San Diego Maritime Museum while
ll_geekcore_ll went to a pub because she doesn't like the ocean. The main reason for visiting the museum was the fact that the H.M.S. Surprise is one of their exhibits. They also have the Star of India, the Medea, the Berkley, a Russian submarine, and the Pilot. The last ship took us on a tour of the Bay for three extra dollars. We were offered life jackets and I took one. I can't swim and I had no intention of drowning. *grin* We still had a couple hours to kill after we finished there, so the three of us went to Old Town San Diego. It was lovely and there were some nice shops. We visited a shop with all kinds of Asian goodies and the clerk had fun chatting with us. *giggle*
Finally, it was time for the tour. We had two guides: Jake and Kim. Both were dressed all in black in the nineteenth century style. All three of us thought Jake was quite handsome and he obviously had fun telling the stories. We stopped in the Gaslamp Quarter first, which used to be the Stingaree red light district. We stood outside one of the hotels that's supposedly haunted by a Madam from the area and a failed gambler. Not too far from there, we visited the William Heath Davis House, apparently haunted by a nurse who cared for TB patients there. After that, we visited the Villa Montezuma Mansion, which is supposedly haunted by the man it was built for, Jesse Shepard, and the last person to own, Mrs. Yeager. Jake showed us the tower key that the family had owned and offered it to her ghost. While we watched, it slowly turned in his hand. It was very cool. *grin* After that, we visited El Campo Santo Cemetery, San Diego's oldest Catholic cemetery. There's only loose soil there, so what little rain they get washes away a layer of the soil. In 1992, a little boy was playing with his dog in the back of the cemetery. The dog disappeared for a bit and, when he returned, he was carrying what they later determined was an Indian child's arm bone. The last stop on our tour was the Whaley House. Some people claim it's haunted. Others say it isn't. Who knows? We headed back after that and went to bed after having something to eat.
Saturday morning, I woke up around 3:00 AM and couldn't get back to sleep. About 6:00 or so, I gave up and pulled out a notepad to write. I was working on my Our Mutual Friend AU story. A little before 8:00, I pulled out my laptop and started typing up what I'd written. The other two got up about 9:00, so I put it away before I finished typing up what I'd written (I finished that last night and am getting very close to finishing). After breakfast,
ll_geekcore_ll sat out on the little patio to read for a bit.
shinseikatsu and I stayed inside and turned on the TV. We caught the end of Black Sheep with Chris Farley and a program on the Travel Channel about a team in North Carolina that investigates locations that are supposedly haunted. The locations on Saturday's program were a mining camp, what used to be a working plantation, and the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial. Of the three locations, they have conclusive proof that the second two are haunted. They're not sure about the first.
ll_geekcore_ll came back inside soon after that and we watched four more episodes of Supernatural before heading home.
We were just outside Murietta on the 215 when
shinseikatsu's car overheated and we were forced to pull over. She called AAA and had us towed to a gas station just in Murietta and we were stuck there from about 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
ll_geekcore_ll called her boyfriend and he came out to get us. He was our knight in shining armor. *grin* He dropped me off at home around 9:00 or so, and then continued on to Azusa. I will confess here and now that I wasn't on my best behavior while we were still unsure of what we were going to do. I wasn't a total bitch, but
shinseikatsu needed me to be a supportive friend and I wasn't. I was too focused on how the situation was affecting me. I didn't even realize it until
shinseikatsu pointed it out to me. I apologized for my behavior and we were able to sit and wait for our knight without snarking at each other. I'll try to be better if we end up in that sort of situation again.
I didn't think to take our digital camera with me when I packed, but I borrowed
ll_geekcore_ll's when I visited the Maritime Museum and used a disposable camera while we were on the tour. Once I get copies of those pictures, I'll share them.
