So, I went to the mall with
filodea and
umbralillium today because we all needed haircuts and
filodea wanted to see if she could find navy dress pants at Lane Bryant or Avenue (no on that). While we were there, we had lunch at the food court. They now have TVs hung up around the edges and customers can text to have certain music videos play on them. One of the choices today was Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me". I admit to being a romantic and finding the song and music video very sweet and fluffy. Watch it so you know what I'm talking about!
But!
I do have a cynical side (don't keel over,
stalwartspirit) and that part of me finds the message of the song presumptuous and arrogant. Just because she's been crushing on the guy since they were little doesn't mean they belong together. To cap it,
umbralillium commented to me that it's kind of stalker-y, which is totally true! She watches the neighbor boy all the time, noticing when he has a disagreement with his girlfriend, seeing when he's sad, when he's happy, etc. That's totally stalking! In the end, it doesn't matter, though, because he loves her, too. And the peasants rejoice: Yay!
What's funny, to me, is an original story I've been working on has a similar theme: this boy and girl have grown up as best friends and she ends up crushing on him while he dates other girls. After high school, though, he goes off to boot camp and she goes to college in England. Only after she graduates do they get married, but it's not the fairy tale ending she thought it would be. I won't say more, but I plan to eventually get the whole saga written so it can be published once it's been edited and polished.
Anyway, classes are going well for me. I got an A on my critical thinking exam and I'm understanding Calculus better. I've been working on an original pirate story that I hope is somewhat decent. I need to have it done and turned in by the 27th of this month, so I can't lolly-gag on it.
If there's any Chronicles of Narnia fans on my flist, I wrote a set of drabbles that take place between The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian focusing on what the Pevensie children think about being back in England. You can read them here: Reflections in England.
I'll shut up now and go work on homework. Bye!
